안녕하세요, edm유학센터 입니다.

오늘 소개해 드릴 대학은 한국에서 가장 유명한 대학이라고 할 수 있는 UCLA입니다. ^^

한국계 미국인들이 가장 많은 학교이죠, 그래서 학교에서도  한국인이 너무 많아서  한국에서 지원할 경우 신입생을 잘 뽑지 않는 다고 합니다.

편입의 경우도 현지 커뮤니티 칼리지를 통해서 하지 않는다면 한국에서 편입할 확률은 거의 제로라고 합니다.

그래서 꼭 UCLA에 입학하고자 하는 학생은 우선 캘리포니아주 커뮤니티 칼리지로 입학해서 최고의 성적을 받으라고 말씀드리고 싶습니다.

이번 미국 출장에서 직접 방문했는데 어찌나 학교가 넓고 좋은지요^^ 공부가 저절로 될 것 같은 좋은 환경과 캠퍼스!

  1. 학교소개

캘리포니아 대학교 로스앤젤레스(University of California, Los Angeles 또는UCLA)는 로스앤젤레스의 웨스트우드에 위치한 미국 캘리포니아의 주립 대학교이다.

1919년에 설립되었으며, 버클리에 이어 캘리포니아 대학교에서 두 번째로 설립된 캠퍼스이다.

또한 캘리포니아에서 매년 지원자 수가 가장 많은 대학교 중 하나로, 2007년에는 미국 내에서 가장 많은5만694명의 지원자가 몰리기도 하였다.

미국50개의 주와100개의 다른 국가 출신들이 모여 있는UCLA는 연구 중심 대학으로 미국의 다양한 대학 순위에서 상위에 랭크되어 있으며, 그 외로는 스포츠 팀이 강하기로 유명하다.

1969년 스탠퍼드 연구 기관과의 협력으로 만들어진 세계 최초의 컴퓨터 네트워크이자 현재의 인터넷의 기반이 된 아파넷이 개발된 곳으로도 유명하다.

UCLA는 미국 내에서나 세계적으로 조사되는 각종 대학 순위에서 대부분20위 이내의 상위권에 속해있다.

특히 의학대학원, 교육대학 등이 유명하다. UCLA의 도서관은800만 부의 서적을 보유하면서, 미국 내에서 도서 보유량으로 열 손가락 안에 꼽힌다.

2006년 상하이 자오퉁 대학에서 조사한 세계500대 대학의 순위에서는 전체 순위14위, 미국 학교로는12위로 조사되었고,

영국 타임지의 세계200대 대학의 순위에서는 전체 순위37위, 미국내의 학교로는16위에 뽑혔다.

2008년8월 발표된2009년U.S. News 미국 대학교 순위에서는UC 버클리에 이어 버지니아 대학과 함께 공동2위의 공립 대학교로 선정되었다.

비즈니스 스쿨, 로스쿨 등의 전문대학원이 우수하며 공학, 인문, 사회과학 프로그램뿐만 아니라

방송영화학과가 특히 뛰어난 학교로 미국 인디 영화 교육에 중점을 두고 있고 댄스, 드라마, 음악 관련 프로그램도 최고 수준이다.

 2006년의 미국 국립과학재단(National Science Foundation)의 조사에 의하면UCLA가2004년에 연구비에 지출한 금액인 미화로7억7300만 달러로,

미국에서 두 번째로 많았고, 공립 대학교 중에서는 가장 많았다.  UCLA의 교육대학은2006년의U.S. News지의 미국 대학원 순위 조사에서2위를 차지하기도 하였다.

졸업생 또는 교수로 노벨상을 수상한 대표적인 인물은 글렌 시보그(1951, 화학), 브루스 메리필드(1984, 화학), 윌리엄 샤프(1990, 경제학), 엘리너 오스트롬(2009, 경제학) 등이 있다.
