While it seems like spring has just begun, we’re already looking forward to summer. The days are getting longer and warmer here in Victoria, and students are gearing up for the first whale watching trip of the season—both sure signs that summer is right around the corner! The summer season is a special time at the ELC, and if your students are still thinking of spending a month or two with us, they're more than welcome. What's New...at the ELC

Group of students Record-Breaking Student Numbers in 2013–2014

The past year has officially been the busiest ever at the ELC, with our student population rising by 1,000. There were 3,528 program students in the 2013–2014 school year, while more than 2,500 students attended throughout 2012–2013. Wow! We’re thrilled that so many students are choosing to study with us and when our new building addition is completed in 2016, our student community will enjoy an even-larger, more modern facility.

Victoria Inner Harbour Next Up on the Conference Circuit: NAFSA, CAUCE and BCCIE

ELC Director Jackie Prowse and Marketing Manager Chris Gambrell will be at NAFSA, in San Diego, from May 26 to 30. They would be pleased to make a date to meet during the conference. Many members of our administrative and marketing staff are also looking forward to catching up with Canadian colleagues at the BCCIE Summer Seminar and the annual CAUCE conferences, in June.

In preparation for our new online application system launch later this spring (stay tuned for details), we have revised the ELC Application Form.

Please save the updated form—now shorter and simpler—to your files, and contact us with any feedback or questions.

WU GlobalPay for Students Now Here

As mentioned last month, UVic has partnered with Western Union Business Solutions to give international students a new online option to pay tuition fees in your own currency. The GlobalPay system is now live and allows you to make payments directly from your home bank to your UVic account, in Canadian dollars. Please check the How Do I Pay? page for more details.

Spotlight: Summer Language and Culture Programs

Student with guitar at Willows Beach Summer is a fantastic time to enjoy the amazing things that Victoria has to offer. The ELC has ensured students get the most out of the city by developing a program that combines the English language and activities. Students in our Summer Language and Culture programs take classes from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm each morning, followed by free activities that complement the vocabulary and learning they’ve done in class. It’s a great way for students to improve English in a natural setting and enjoy the amazing summer in our capital city.
